When the first version of the 992 model Porsche 911 was launched in 2018, the Carrera S and Carrera 4S formed part of the introductory model offering. However, with the initial refresh of the range for 2025, the S models did not feature, as the normal and GTS variants were introduced first.
The refreshed Porsche Carrera range – the 992.2 generation – is not offered with all-wheel drive (hence no Carrera 4S model) but only with rear-wheel drive. The 992.2 Carrera also offers no manual transmission, nor the option of a hybrid drivetrain, but utilises the same 3.0-litre (2,981 cc) twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and eight-speed PDK found in the 992.1 Carrera.
Now, Porsche has relaunched the 911 Carrera S (in Coupé and Cabriolet guise) to close the gap between the 911 Carrera and the more performance-oriented 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid. The powertrain of the S derivatives has been significantly upgraded, and according to Zuffenhausen, they now achieve performance levels previously reserved for the 992.1-generation 911 Carrera GTS.
Also, an extended list of standard equipment and significantly increased customisation options compared to the 911 Carrera, including a lift system for the front axle, HD-Matrix LED headlights, and the Sport Chrono package, which includes the Porsche Track Precision app, make the S derivative an attractive option within the Carrera model family.
For use in the new 911 Carrera S, the twin-turbo boxer engine has been upgraded to previous GTS levels for a significant power increase and simultaneous emissions reduction. Its output of 353 kW between 2,300 and 5,000 rpm represents an increase of 22 kW compared to its predecessor, and it delivers 530 Nm of torque, also at 2,300 to 5,000 rpm.
This increase in performance and efficiency is due to new turbochargers and optimised charge-air cooling, among other things. Based on the design of the previous generation 911 Turbo, the new Carrera S Coupé can now accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 308 km/h.

UPGRADED STANDARD EQUIPMENT
Standard equipment in the Carrera S now includes staggered tyre fitment with 20/21-inch Carrera S wheels, a sports exhaust system with tailpipes in silver, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and the same brake system as used in the 911 Carrera GTS, supplied standard with red brake callipers and discs (408 mm at the front and 380 mm on the rear).
Performance-enhancing options available on request include the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system and the PASM sports suspension, which has a 10 mm lower ride height and is combined with rear-wheel steering. The damper hydraulics have also been optimised, and the steering is more direct.
The Carrera S comes standard with a black leather package. The seats, headrests, dashboard, door panels, and optional rear seat system in the Coupé are trimmed with smooth-finish leather. As with other Carrera models, folding rear seats are available at no additional charge. The Cabriolet is equipped with a rear seat system.

LAST WORD
An option with even more extensive leather use, covering the glove box lid, the side panels, and the seat base, is also available. Contrast stitching in Crayon is also available (on request). The Carrera S also benefits from the upgraded standard equipment found in the entire model series, such as Matrix LED headlights and a wireless smartphone charger. The new 911 Carrera S or Cabriolet can now be ordered for R3,037,000 (Coupé) or R3,304,000 (Cabriolet). Prices include a three-year/100,000km Driveplan.
