AUDI A3 SEDAN 2.0 TFSI

Launched internationally in 1996, the first generation Audi A3 not only created its own segment, but also became the global market and sector leader in the premium A-segment. Our range favourite, the 2.0 TFSI looks set to extend Audi’s “Vorsprung” even further.

CLEAN, CLEAR, CONNECTED

While the dimensions of the new Audi A3 models remain virtually unchanged, the styling has been updated with headlight and taillight design changes, a more emphasised bonnet, integrated front bumper, a redesigned single-frame grille and a newly contoured rear diffuser that makes for a more aggressive looking posterior.

Bi-xenon headlights come standard on the new Audi A3, but LED lights as well as Matrix LED headlights are also available as options for the first time in the premium compact class. Since both the LED and Matrix LED headlights offer dynamic turn signals, its functionality more than justifies the extra cost.

The sporty lines of the exterior echo in the interior of the A3 sedan. The interior impresses with the top-quality materials and ergonomics, the highlight being the new Audi Virtual Cockpit, available for the first time in the compact class. The A3 also offers excellent connectivity by seamlessly integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via the Audi smartphone interface system.

POWER ADVANTAGE

Audi’s “Vorsprung Durch Technic”, meaning “advantage through technology”, is as evident as ever in the engine line-up for the Audi A3, which comprises three petrol units and one diesel. Power output ranges from 85 kW in the entry level 1.0 TFSI, up to 228 kW in the top of the line Audi S3.

Of course, Audi’s technical innovation comes to the fore in the newly developed 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the 2.0 TFSI. Accompanied by an entirely new seven-speed dual clutch transmission, this marvel in engine technology generates 140 kW power and ample torque of 320 Nm, enough to propel this A3 from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 244 km/h.

LAST WORD

The new Audi A3 looks sportier, even muscular, which certainly imbues it with a more distinguished presence on the road and in the parking lot. Although it’s not a big car, it feels like a big car –spacious, comfortable, and very responsive. Most impressive are the new engines, and none more so than the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit. With the engines that supply more than enough power across the range, the driving experience is further enhanced with Audi’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a host of other passive and active safety features, making the Audi A3 an absolute pleasure to drive.
