LANDY DISCOVERY: READY FOR TWO OR 4-WHEEL ADVENTURE

It’s a fact; the Land Rover Discovery is one versatile SUV. It can be had in a seven-seat configuration that makes the daily school-run a breeze, or the third row of seats can be folded down, giving you 1,231 litres of luggage space – enough to swallow a few carts of groceries.

However, where the Discovery really shines is in the off-road department. It feels at home scampering up the side of a mountain, or make small work of a donga. It’s just that capable.

Now, though, buyers that enjoy remote cycling trails can perfectly pair their lifestyle to the donga-conquering capabilities of the Disco with what the British marque officially calls ‘Gear’.

The first line of add-on accessories to join the Gear range is the Cycling Pack that is not only manufactured to provide seamless integration with the Discovery but, also add a more adventurous look to the SUV.

The Cycle Pack can be had in either a roof mounted configuration, or it can be mounted on the tow bar. Both can carry two bicycles.

Rubber carpets for the first and second-row foot wells also come standard with the pack, while a waterproof Liner Tray protects the luggage area from mud on the way to the trailhead.

And speaking of mud, the pack adds a subtle aesthetic element in the form of front and rear mudflaps, while buyers can choose to add either black or silver hubcaps.

A First Aid kit is also included.

So, how much does it cost? Well, it’s not exactly cheap since buying each item individually will rocket the total price to R28,791 while buying the Cycle Pack set will cost R22,500. However, each item is factory approved and covered under the standard vehicle warranty.

The Cycle Pack is available to existing or new Discovery owners, while the carmaker also says the price can be incorporated into financing agreements.
