A recent drive of the new Audi SQ7 and SQ8 in their native Bavaria set the stage for experiencing Audi’s latest engineering marvels.
Driving from Munich to Ingolstadt is akin to an immersion in Audi country, and more so when it includes the scenic route through Bavaria, which is exactly what we recently experienced in anticipation of the new model launch in South Africa.

The Audi Q7 has been updated with a striking new design and enhanced technology. The exterior showcases new front and rear sections that underscore the SUV’s powerful character. PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING
The Q7 line-up includes the 55 TFSI model with a 3.0-litre V6 engine, delivering 250 kW and 500 Nm of torque. The highlight is the SQ7, now equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 373 kW and 770 Nm of torque. This powerhouse accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. The Q7’s air suspension and all-wheel steering ensure a balanced, controlled, and effortless driving experience.
INTERIOR LUXURY
Inside, the Q7 offers a spacious and versatile cabin in five- and seven-seat configurations. High-quality materials, generous space, and advanced infotainment systems create a premium atmosphere. The luggage capacity ranges from 867 to 1,993 litres, catering to diverse needs.
The Audi Q7 55 TFSI starts at R1,958,000 for the Platinum Edition and R1,987,900 for the Black Edition. The SQ7’s pricing will be announced in January 2025. Both models have a five-year/100,000 km Audi Freeway Plan, ensuring comprehensive service and maintenance.

Our drive from Munich to Ingolstadt in the new SQ7 and SQ8 was a testament to Audi’s commitment to excellence. The route offered a mix of highways and scenic byways, showcasing the vehicles’ impressive performance and handling. The SQ7’s V8 engine roared to life on the autobahn, effortlessly reaching high speeds while maintaining stability and comfort. The SQ8, with its sleek design and the same powerful engine, turned heads and delivered an exhilarating drive.
Stopping at the Audi headquarters, we were treated to a fascinating tour of the Audi Museum. The exhibits chronicled Audi’s journey from its early days to its current status as a leader in automotive innovation. The museum tour was a highlight, providing context and appreciation for the engineering prowess behind the vehicles we had just driven.
Continuing our journey to Nuremberg, the SQ7 and SQ8 navigated the winding roads of Bavaria with ease. The advanced suspension systems adapted to the changing terrain, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride. Lunch at Wirtshaus Hütt’n was a delightful experience, with traditional Bavarian cuisine complementing the day’s adventure.
