First, there was the coupé-SUV and now Mercedes-Benz is once again looking to reinvent the high-riding segment with the fusion of a high-end sedan, and an SUV.
It is called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept and will make its debut in Beijing at the Auto China 2018.
And while there are some familiar lines gracing the body of the concept, hard lines were frowned upon during the sketching process. According to the luxury German marque, no sharp edges can be found on the surface of the concept.
The smooth edges continue as far as design inspiration is concerned, which apparently, can be found in the strangest of places. For instance, a pinstripe suit was used as the creative force behind the vertical bars on the Merc’s chrome-plated radiator grille.
Performance-wise, the luxury bruiser is powered by four permanent-magnet synchronous motors, that combined, produce a powertrain output of 550 kW. Providing power to the motors is the 80-kWh battery that can produce an estimated range of 500 kilometres with reasonable driving inputs.
According to Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury prototype represents a segment never seen before. “Our concept combines the DNA of an SUV with that of a sedan to produce an ultra-modern SUV of three-box design.”
