GWM ORA 03

GWM recently introduced South Africa’s cheapest EV, the ORA 03, at the Kyalami International Grand Prix circuit. Branded as “The ORA Funky Cat” or “ORA Good Cat” in various regions, this electric marvel – the first from GWM – encapsulates fashion, lifestyle, and the vibrancy of youth.

In the dynamic realm of South Africa’s automotive landscape, Great Wall Motors (GWM) is etching an indelible mark, captivating drivers within the nation and across the African continent. Amidst its impressive line-up, featuring the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and the formidable P-Series, the spotlight illuminates the ORA 03, a revolutionary electric vehicle poised to make waves.

DRIVING THE SHIFT

Beyond a mere car launch, the event at Kyalami Grand Prix was a bold statement, an affirmation that GWM is steering the transition toward electric mobility, and embracing a greener and more sustainable future. The ORA 03, acclaimed as the most affordable EV in South Africa, showcased its prowess on the iconic Kyalami track. The launch wasn’t just about speed; it spotlighted the ORA 03’s handling and performance, proving that electric vehicles can be exhilarating.

SAFETY, STYLE, AND SUBSTANCE

Crowned the safest car in its class by Euro NCAP and earning a five-star rating from ANCAP, the ORA 03 transcends being just a car. Designed by former Porsche designer Emanuel Derta, it marries old-world charisma with advanced technology, promising safety and style.

The ORA 03’s interior combines high-quality, vegan-friendly materials with advanced technology, comfort, modern aesthetics, and a focus on sustainability. Connectivity is handled by two 10.25” touchscreens – one for the infotainment system and the other for drive instrumentation.

Charging the ORA 03 isn’t just a task; it’s a statement of cost-effectiveness. With dedicated ORA dealers providing 7 kW home charging wall box solutions, the ORA 03 presents an economically viable choice with significantly lower charging costs than traditional fuel. During the launch, a test drive covering approximately 80 kilometres to and from Roadhouse Harties was part of our driving route. The winners with the least battery usage and within a reasonable range were acknowledged. Team Driven managed to secure a second overall spot in the challenge.

ORA 03 RANGE AND AFFORDABILITY

With variants like the 300 Super Luxury and the 400 GT Ultra Luxury, all powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, the ORA 03 boasts practical figures – a 48 kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery for a range of up to 310 km in the 300, and a 63 kWh nickel-manganese cobalt battery extending the range up to 420 km for 400 models.

Positioning itself as an affordable and eco-friendly option, starting from R686,950, the ORA 03 is ready to electrify the streets of Mzansi and beyond, promising innovation, sustainability, and a brighter future on South African roads.

LAST WORD

In a world where cars are often perceived as utilitarian machines, the GWM ORA 03 stands out as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and the promise of a brighter future on South African roads. It transcends being just a vehicle; it’s a celebration of the joy of driving – a narrative unfolding as GWM charts its course in the automotive industry.
