JAC Motors South Africa has launched the T9 Super Lux, the latest addition to its T-Series double-cab range. Unveiled at the Shanghai Automotive Show six months ago, the T9 represents over four years of development and extensive global testing. South Africa is the first right-hand-drive market for the T9, highlighting its importance in JAC Motors’ global expansion strategy.
Built on JAC Motors’ third-generation international LCV platform, the T9 is the company’s most advanced bakkie to date. JAC Motors, originally a truck manufacturer in China 60 years ago, entered the LCV and passenger car markets in 2007. The T9, manufactured in China, is exported to over 40 countries, underscoring its global reach.
The T9’s design and road presence make it a key player in the leisure-focused double-cab market. The T9 2.0L CTi range includes four Lux and Super Lux derivatives, priced from R529,900 to R649,900, offering both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations to cater to various preferences.
DYNAMIC TURBODIESEL EFFICIENCY
The T9 range debuts with a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, with plans for a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) models in 2024. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged, direct-injected diesel engine features an intercooler and Electrical Variable Geometry Turbocharger (EVGT), delivering 125 kW @ 3,600 rpm and 410 Nm between 1,500 to 2,500 rpm for impressive everyday drivability.
Paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the T9 offers various driving modes, including Sport, Normal, Eco, and Snow. The 4×4 derivatives come with electronic part-time 4WD with low range and a rear diff-lock for enhanced off-road capability. The T9’s fuel efficiency is notable, with the 4×2 derivatives achieving an average of 7.8 L/100 km (combined cycle), providing an approximate 1,000-kilometer driving range on its 76-litre tank. It also boasts a braked towing mass of 3,500 kg.
MODERN LIFESTYLE DESIGN
The T9’s design, crafted in JAC Motors’ international design centres in Italy and Japan, exudes contemporary appeal. Its muscular front end, with a vertical chrome bar grille and integrated LED Daytime Running Lights, Xenon Headlamps, and Fog Lamps, enhances its commanding road presence. The bold JAC badge on the grille further contributes to the T9’s striking design.
Neat creases and curves complement the stylish exterior, bold black wheel arches, running boards, and a style bar. The two-tone 18” alloy wheels with 265/60 R18 tyres fit the rugged look of this lifestyle bakkie. The distinctive LED taillight design improves nighttime visibility while adding a touch of elegance to the rear profile.

Safety is paramount in the T9, featuring a high-strength steel birdcage body, multi-layer anti-collision beams, six airbags, and a front centre airbag. Other safety features include a Traction Control System (TCS), Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-start Hold Control (HHC).
