THINKING FORWARD

Hino South Africa has launched an all-new 700 Series to complete its local truck range. With significant advancements in technology, the 2023 model of the 700 Series offers improved safety systems, enhanced fuel economy, and a redesigned cab, all contributing to a lower total cost of ownership. This latest release establishes Hino as a strong competitor in the high-volume, extra-heavy truck category.

The new 700 Series sets a benchmark for safety with its extensive range of standard safety technologies. The Pre-Collision System (PCS) utilises millimetre wave radar and an image-based sensor to detect potential collisions, providing visual and audible warnings to the driver. The Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) also alerts the driver if the truck deviates from its lane, promoting safer driving practices. The Staggering Warning (SW) system addresses situations where the truck starts weaving, promptly ensuring the driver takes corrective action. The inclusion of the Driver Monitor Camera (DMC) further enhances safety by continuously monitoring the driver’s focus and alerting them if their attention wanders. Rear-view mirrors have been improved to provide better visibility, enhancing overall driver awareness.

IMPROVED FUEL ECONOMY

The 700 Series incorporates several fuel-saving features. The switch from a variable nozzle-type turbocharger to a conventional type improves efficiency and reduces the truck’s weight. Furthermore, the standard Eco Mode system assists in optimising fuel consumption. These enhancements contribute to improved fuel economy and cost savings for truck owners.

REDESIGNED CAB

The exterior of the Hino 700 Series showcases its first significant design change in 14 years, featuring a bold grille with a three-dimensional appearance and stylishly designed headlamps. The cab has been completely redesigned, offering the driver a more spacious and comfortable environment. The interior has also significantly improved, focusing on reducing driver fatigue and enhancing ergonomics. Additionally, the new cab design allows for easier access to the engine during service and maintenance activities, minimising downtime for customers.

POWERFUL PERFORMANCE

The 700 Series is powered by derivatives of the proven and reliable 13-litre Hino E13C six-cylinder turbocharged and inter-cooled diesel engine. The range includes various models, such as tippers, freight carriers, and truck tractors, all in 6×4 configurations. These models deliver impressive power, with the 2841 versions producing 302 kW (410 hp) and the high-powered 2845 truck tractor generating 331 kW (450 hp). The engines are paired with a ZF 16-speed Traxon automated manual transmission, offering automatic shifting and manual override for improved efficiency and fuel savings.

COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY AND SUPPORT

The new Hino 700 Series comes with one of the most comprehensive warranties for extra-heavy trucks in South Africa. The tipper models have a 24-month warranty for the vehicle, powertrain, and chassis frame, while the other models are covered for 36 months. Additionally, a 48-month warranty against cab corrosion is provided. Hino also offers Hino-Care service and maintenance plans, tailored to meet customers’ specific requirements. This commitment to support and satisfaction is further reinforced by including HINO-CONNECT, a complete fleet management system, as a standard feature in the new 700 Series.
