The wait is over. The much-anticipated Golf 8 was revealed internationally yesterday from Wolfsburg, which is where this beloved hatchback originated some 45 years ago.
The design of the latest model remains classic Golf and simultaneously trendy. With a larger grille and an LED light bar that runs between the headlights, the newest addition to the Volkswagen family is quite the looker.
Volkswagen has also kept their pre-launch promise that this will be the most digitally savvy Golf yet, featuring an online connectivity unit it dubbed ‘We Connect’ as well as Car2X. The latter, which comes standard on all new models, enables the Golf to connect with its environment through traffic and other vehicle information up to 800 m away and can warn the driver of potential hazards.
The eighth-generation Golf offers hybrid drives in the eTSI with power outputs ranging from 81 kW to 110 kW with the mid-range slotting in at 96 kW. Furthermore, there are also petrol TSI derivatives which produce 66 kW and 81 kW, while the TDI models produce 85 kW and 110 kW.
The Golf 8 goes on sale in Germany in December and will make its way to South Africa early in next year.
